Geographical Midpoint of Sweden in Ånge Medelpad

With a view of Lake Munkby and Ljungdalen ( The Ljungan Valley ) you can stand by the Geographical Midpoint of Sweden! In 1947 a team from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology declared the 465m high mountain, Flataklocken, as the exact geographical centre of Sweden.

Close to the exact midpoint, you can enjoy a fika and a light lunch in a summer café open between June 27th and September 4th, between 11 am and 5 pm.

You will find Lake Munkby in the historical province of Medelpad. The province borders to several other interesting provinces such as Hälsingland, Härjedalen, Jämtland, Ångermanland and the Gulf of Bothnia.

The capital city of Medelpad is Sundsvall. A great city and a great place to start your roundtrip.

Info Sundsvall: the city is considered on of the industrial cradles of Sweden and has played an important part in the Swedish industrialisation. Around the city you have some great hiking. If you like long hikes try the pilgrim trail  St. Olavsleden. The trail will take you to the city of Trondheim in Norway.  You can also hike along the River Indalsälven. There is a trail called Indalsleden taking you along this important river.

To cross the Artic circle is a feat. Now you are truly on the Northern hemisphere.  You can the Article circle it in several places in the Swedish Lapland.

Some more northbound tips

A nice north Swedish roundtrip is to cruise up the coastline in Hälsingland and then return inlands along several beautiful sites and villages on a centuries-old road “Tidernas Väg”.

Perhaps you will decide to follow the River Dalälven as you continue towards Jämtland and Härjedalen.

Another stunning trip is to follow the Gulf of Bothnia coastline as you the way up to Luleå and Kalix.

Rent a motorhome in Stockholm or Luleå and tour the Swedish north.

A great way to tour central and Northern Sweden is in a motorhome. You can enjoy almost empty roads ( if you chose the roads less taken) and stunning nature.
