Description:

Meteorite Siljan Dalarna hit earth 377 million years ago

The circle around Lake Siljan (Siljansringen) is a hike through the history of beautiful landscapes with a high geological values. The 2,5 km-diameter meteorite hit earth at 100,000 km/h speed and formed a huge crater in the ground.

The beautiful landscape is a result of the meteorite collision and erosion by the ice during the glaciations.

In addition, the impact of the meteorite raised masses of mother rocks and formed an inverse dome.  In the vertical walls you can perfectly see the different sedimentary layers created over time.

The nature reserve Styggforsen is a destination within the “Siljansringen”. You can walk along a path of about 500 meters. The path circulates around a small precipice. Here you can see impressive vertical walls raised by the impact of the meteorite.

Furthermore the beautiful nature makes it perfect for trekking.

Do not miss the beautiful cemetery with a breathtaking panoramic view.

You can find Styggforsen in Boda Kyrkby, along the 301 road between Rättvik and Furudal.

In Furudal you can are always close to Nature and you should not miss the guided historical hike  in the old-growth forest close to heritage site Furudal Bruk.  A truly unique nature experience.
