Description:

Visiting Sweden, are you planning to travel to Sweden in January, February or March? Here’s everything you need to know beforehand.

Visiting Sweden in January

Visting Sweden, what the weather would be like

  • Lots of snow and very cold. The temperature could be anywhere between -10 degrees Celsius to +8 degrees Celsius. However, the strong winds will make it feel much colder.
  • Possible heavy snowfalls. The snow can get really bad and you couldn’t leave the house because of 30-50 cm of snow.
  • Little daylight, mostly darkness.
  • You need to bring warm and wind resistant clothes. As well as, water proof shoes, scarfs, beanies and gloves.

Things to do and see

  • Enjoy the Winter Wonderland scenery and the Aurora Borealis/Northern Lights
  • Not many countryside tourist places will be open (expect northern Sweden, outdoor activity resorts, cafés and farm resorts ) and the streets will be quiet. If you like the Swedish winter landscapes and outdoors,  it is the perfect time to go northbound.
  • Snow activities:
    • Downhill or cross country skiing,
    • ice skating,
    • ice hockey,
    • ride snowmobiles,
    • dog or reindeer sledding,
    • reindeer safari
    • Go Cart on ice,
    • snowball fights and such

  • February is normally the high season for skiing. So you need to book well in advance ski resorts and such.
  • Little daylight, mostly darkness.
  • Again, not many tourist places (expect northern Sweden and outdoor activity resorts, farm resorts and countryside cafés) will be open but the streets will be more busy.
  • Snow activities:
    • Downhill or cross country skiing,
    • ice skating,
    • ice hockey,
    • ride snowmobiles,

What the weather would be like

  • Unpredictable. The supposed first month of Spring could have sun one hour and the next hour heavy snowfall. Or it could rain for days straight. The temperature could be anywhere between -6 degrees Celsius to +20 degrees Celsius. The weather changes by the hour, so be prepared.
  • Possible heavy snowfalls. The snow can get really bad and you couldn’t leave the house because of 30-50 cm of snow.
  • You need to bring warm and wind resistant clothes. As well as, thinner jackets in case the weather becomes better.

Things to do and see

  • Some tourist places in northern Sweden will start to close and places in southern Sweden will start to open.
  • Longer daylight, less darkness.
