Description: Travel the roads and landscapes that inspired Astrid Lindgren to write her books

Are you looking for an activity that suits the family trip, where you can be outdoors for a whole day and at the same time experience a piece of Swedish culture and nature in Småland? Then the bicycle tours in the Film Landscape Småland are for you.

Outdoor cycling adventure

The bike tours start from the film museum Filmbyn Småland in Mariannelund and go to movie recording sites and the tourist attractions Katthult and Bullerbyn. Along the way you pass several places where scenes for the films about Emil in Lönneberga were recorded. A child-friendly activity and an outdoor adventure on your motorhome vacation or family trip in Sweden.

Småland for real

The bike tours are about 15-70 kilometers long and go through large forests and idyllic villages, past red cottages, living farmhouses, cultivated landscapes and glittering lakes. All in typical Småland environment in a hilly and varied landscape with beautiful views. You cycle on less busy asphalt roads, gravel roads and on parts of the Sevedeleden hiking trail. Park your bike and stop at historic sites and unique natural phenomena and attractions. Maybe you’ll meet some of the forest’s wildlife, a hare, a deer, and even the king of the forest. Set aside plenty of time for a swim in a lake or cook and eat by an open fire.

Rental bicycles and food packages can be pre-ordered and picked up at Filmbyn Småland in Mariannelund.

Book a personal guide and learn more Swedish Heritage

At certain times it is possible to book your own local guide. During a guided tour you will learn more about Swedish and Småland history. During the 19th century, several hundred thousand Swedes emigrated to America, many from this particular area. In 1875 Astrid Lindgren’s father was born here, we pass the houses where he was born and grew up. 100 years later, the films about Emil in Lönneberga and Barnen in Bullerbyn were recorded here. Listen to the stories from the recording time and see the recording locations.
